Last week China sent a missile to destroy it's own satellites nearly 500 miles in outer space. Due to the explosion, debris from the satellite could damage other satellites that are in orbit and even a spacecraft nearby. The U.S. believes they are trying to have a competition. The U.S. military has relied on it's satellites for navigation, communications and missle guidance. But tensions over the United States and China begin to rise. But America dissagrees that this race isn't needed because there is no arms race in space!
1. If you were in the President's position would you let there be an arms race in space? Why?
2. How many satellites are there orbiting earth? And how far is the International Space Station from earth?

1. If I were in the President's position I would not want to get in competition with China. A little competition could turn into disputes that can lead to war. I think mrg chose this article because it gives us an update on our country and the latest issues it is having with another country.2. I can not find a link or the answers for the second question.
1. If I were the president I would be afraid that all the countries would turn on each other if there were to be competition in space and that could lead to many problems.
2. There are about 26,000 satellites in space and the International Space Station is about 220 miles from earth.
When I read this article it kinda concerned me because it seems that the world has grown very dependent on satellites for a lot of things. The world would be in a state of total panic if satellites were destroyed.
If I was the president of the United States, I would not let there be an arms race in space. Arms race is dangerous because if something were to explode we could have debris hitting satellites or our planet. Also arms race can lead to ruin out internet, T.V., military forces, and radio.
In space there are about 26,000 satellites and the International Space Station is around 220 miles from Earth.
1. If I was in the Presidents situation I would not want to get into a war with china. All that is going to do is start another war, and be shipping more and more young men and woman off to a different country to fight.
2. In space there are just about 30,000 satellites this very moment, and the International Space Station is also just about 220 miles away from earth.
Agreeing with stf this story did concern me and put me into panic mode. I honestly can't picture myself not living with satellites in our lives. What also put me into concern is the fact that we might be going into war with china.
This artical scares me a little because it really is an eyeopener in howmuch danger we are in.
1.If i was the President I would not do an arms in space race because we are already in enough wars. but we should get some defenses maby.
2.I cant find a link to find the information but i looked online and found that there are about 2200 tons of satalites. I could not find the distance from earth.
1.If i were in the presidents position i certainly would not want to get in a competition with china because it can create problems with both countries and start a war.
2. There are about 30,000 satelites in space and the International space station is about 220 miles from earth.
1.If I were in the president's place I wouldn't want to get involved with China because we already are fighting with Iraq so we don't want to have another war with China.
2.There are about 30,000 satellites orbiting Earth and the International Space Station is 220 miles away from Earth.
I am afraid that we are going to get in another fight with another country because we already lost so many innocent people from one war.If we have a competition with China then it will be a whole big despute.
1.No, for one thing we don't need to start another conflict with another country, if the race turns hostile another war.
2.Their are about 8,681 satellites in orbit constantly. The Internatoal Space Statoion ca ange from 80Km to 500Km. I found both of these answers at: SaturdaymorningScience.com
This was a good article, it had topic off earth and it told information of compition that could come in affect between us and China.
If I were the president I would not want to get into a conflict with China. We have enough to worry about these days, we don't want another war!! There are about 26,000 satellites in space, and the International Space Station is 220 miles from Earth.
Question 1- If i were in the President's position i would not want to get in a competition with China. If we destroy satellites it could be harmful to us and the other satellites in outer space that we rely on to give us the information we use everyday. Also because both countries could take this "race" very seriously and end up in war or in huge disputes.
Question 2- There are between 25,000 - 30,000 satellites orbiting earth and the International Space Station is around 220 miles from the earth.
This article really surprised me and made me kind of concerned because we could have disputes with them and be at war with yet another country
